Heads

Look at the hair, eyes, noses and the lips on the dice. There are people of various ages, with glasses, piercings, with and without beards. Take a moment to think about what each trait does or doesn’t mean. What could this person be like? As you look at the dice, you can ask your child these questions:

People’s hair grows in different amounts, colours and shapes, but it can also be cut, coloured, straightened or curled. Why might someone want to change the haircut, shape or colour? Does having long hair mean someone is a man or a woman? And can women have hair on their faces, even beards?

What do you think about younger or older people?
Why do some people wear glasses and how do people perceive them?
What might piercings stand for?

Many people might answer these questions with: “Most people with this trait are…”. Maybe. However, this answer makes it easy to see everyone with that trait in the same way. How are people treated when they are seen this way? How does it affect them when they are treated like this repeatedly? For example, what types of friendships or jobs will they find easily and which ones not? Is that fair? What can we do to make each other feel good and valued?
